A Hopeless Romantic get her HEA

Harriet Evans’ Rules for Dating a Romantic Hero is a follow-up to her novel A Hopeless Romantic. It’s a brief novella (or maybe a long short story) that fills the reader in on the romantic journey of the main characters, Laura and Nick, and gives them the proper HEA that they didn’t have in the novel. I’d recommend it to fans of A Hopeless Romantic who have wanted to know “What happened next?”
Also included is an excerpt from the beginning of Evans’ next novel, Not Without You, which is coming out at the end of March 2014. The beginning is intriguing enough that I’m going to have to check it out!

Are you kidding me?

I don't know why I thought this short story would magically pull together the things that bugged me about Hopeless Romantic, but I really did.
And I was wrong.
I actually like Laura better this time around, but Nick is just blah. That goes for the rest of the characters as well. I thought the characters were well rounded and interesting before. They were just hollowed out shells in this short story.
It's way too short. I mean it's great that we actually see the happily ever after, don't get me wrong, but it actually seemed more like the outline for their happily ever after and that left me cheated. There was quite a bit of potential for a full length novel here that might have been spectacular. Not getting it makes the happily ever after less happy.
And where was her brother? Just saying. Was there even a mention? Probably. Hopefully. I'm willing to believe that I overlooked it because I was waiting for more and skipped it.
Basically, this just didn't give me enough and what it did give me was flat and trite. I almost wish I could go back to my own ending for the story. It worked a lot better than this.

Even though this story is only 107 pages long, Harriet Evans made me feel heart broken, stupidly in love and so touched I actually cried. Brilliant.
Rules for Dating a Romantic Hero is a wonderfully sweet romance I highly recommend to anyone who has ever dreamed of her own Mr. Darcy or Lord Crawley.
